How to Set Up a Live Wedding Photo Slideshow

Guest photos on the big screen in real time — the ultimate reception crowd-pleaser

Imagine this: your guests upload a photo from the dance floor, and 30 seconds later it appears on a big screen for everyone to see. That's a live wedding photo slideshow, and it's one of the most fun, interactive things you can add to your reception.

Here's how to set one up.

What You Need

Display

A TV, monitor, or projector. Most venues have one available, or you can rent one. A 55"+ TV works great.

Computer

A laptop connected to the display. Any laptop with a web browser and HDMI output works.

Internet

A stable WiFi connection at the venue. Ask your venue about their WiFi before the day.

Photo Service

A photo sharing service with a slideshow feature, like Keepix. This is what powers the live display.

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Create Your Album

Set up your photo album on Keepix (or your preferred service). This is the same album your guests will upload to via QR code.

2. Connect the Display

At the venue, connect a laptop to the TV or projector via HDMI. Open a web browser and navigate to your album's slideshow page. On Keepix, this is accessible from your album's settings — just click "Start Slideshow."

3. Configure the Slideshow

Set your preferences:

  • Slide timing: 5-8 seconds per photo works well for a reception
  • Upload slide frequency: Show the QR code every 5-10 photos to remind guests to upload
  • Auto-refresh: The slideshow should automatically check for new photos

4. Go Fullscreen

Enter fullscreen mode on the browser (usually F11 or the fullscreen button in the slideshow). Hide the mouse cursor. The slideshow now runs itself.

5. Place QR Codes on Tables

Make sure every table has a QR code card. The slideshow periodically shows its own QR code, but table cards ensure guests can upload anytime.

Tips for the Best Experience

  • Position the screen where most people can see it — Near the dance floor or head table. Not tucked in a corner.
  • Test the WiFi beforehand — Visit the venue with your laptop and test the full flow: upload a photo from your phone and verify it appears on the slideshow.
  • Seed with a few photos — Upload 5-10 photos from your phone before guests arrive so the slideshow isn't empty at the start.
  • Assign someone to monitor it — Ask a trusted friend or your wedding coordinator to keep an eye on the display. Screens can go to sleep, HDMI can disconnect.
  • Use a dedicated power source — Plug the laptop in. A dead battery mid-reception is no fun.
  • Turn off laptop notifications — Put the laptop in Do Not Disturb mode. You don't want email popups on the big screen.

Why Guests Love It

The live slideshow creates a positive feedback loop. A guest sees their photo on the big screen, laughs, and tells their table. Now everyone at that table pulls out their phones and uploads photos. More photos means more entertainment on the screen, which means more uploads.

We've seen albums go from 20 photos to 200+ photos within an hour of turning on the slideshow. It genuinely changes the reception energy.

What About Content Moderation?

This is the most common concern, and it's valid. You don't want inappropriate photos on the big screen at your wedding.

The good news: in practice, this almost never happens. Wedding guests are generally well-behaved. But if you're worried about it, some options:

  • Have your monitor person keep an eye on uploads and remove anything questionable
  • Set the slideshow to show photos with a slight delay (e.g., 2-minute buffer) so you can review before they appear
  • Trust your guests — they were invited for a reason
